October 24, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque 18 - Blackhawk 22
Dubuque fell their last game of the season in the final minutes of the game. Dubuque scored early in the first half when Austin Goodman, Out-Center, made a penatly kick to make it 3-0. Then Dubuque defense collapsed and in a matter of fifteen minutes Blackhawk scored 3 tries and 1 conversion kick going up 17-3. Dubuque surged back when Dubuque's fullback pick up a botched punt and scoring from 20 meters out. Goodman's kick was good and Dubuque pulled within 7. A few minutes later from set piece play Goodman scored on a 70 meter break away. The conversion kick was no good and Dubuque still trailed 15-17. In the final the seconds of the half Goodman scored on a penalty kick to Dubuque up 18-17 going into the second. The second half was mainly a defensive struggle. Tensions started to boil over and the Sir called the game to eventually restart it and just kick a Blackhawk player out. Minutes later Blackhawk scored the final try to put them up for good, 22-18.
October 16, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque 0 - Pearl city 78
The Gentlemen of Dubuque suffered a lopsided loss this past weekend. Playing with a man down in the backfield and having a very young and inexperienced backfield, Pearl city scored most of their tries from the outside. A couple bright points of the game was Dubuque's lineouts's and scrums. The forwards had a really great showing winning their scrums and lineout's throughout the game. The men of the match were: Forwards - Captain Matt Roberts, Backs - Gabe Ward.
October 10, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque 12 - River City 8
After a change in schedule Dubuque was able to pull together a full side and travel to mason city this weekend to play the River City team. Dubuque got on the board early in the first half when Out-Center, Joe Kaczmarski broke up a River Cities skip pass then Fly-Half, Austin Goodman pick up the ball and ran nearly the length of the field for the try. Austin's kick after was good which made it a 7-0 lead. After the kickoff River City pulled some drives together and was able to get a Kick after a Dubuque Penalty, which made 7-3 Dubuque. But Dubuque quickly answered. With a scrum nearly on the try line when Dubuque's Scrum-Half, broke up the pass from River cities scrum half and jumped on the ball for the second try. The conversion kick was failed. Dubuque went up 12-3 going into the second, where they never gave up the lead. River city had a last minute urge by scoring a 1 try late in the second half but were unable to surpass Dubuque. Dubuque is now 2-2 in league play and 3-2 overall.
October 2, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque 36 - Jones County 7
The Gentlemen of Dubuque had an easy victory this past weekend scoring 6 trie's. Eightman, Ben Roberts scored 3 tries. Lock and teams' captain, Matt Roberts scored 1 try. Outcenter, Austin Goodman scored 2 tries and made 3 conversion kicks. Finally, Flanker, Pete Freiburger scored the last try on the last play of the match. The men of the match were: Backs - Austin Goodman and Forwards - Seth Goodman. Defensively, Dubuque played very aggressive not only a try until mid-way through the second half. Dubuque begins league play again next week versus River City.
September 25, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque 1 - Bremer County 0 (Forfeit)
The Gentlemen of Dubuque get their first victory of the season but by forfeit. Bremer County backed out of the game early Friday morning. Dubuque's next home match is October 2nd against Jones County.
September 18, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque 15 - Iowa City 22
After a week's rest the Gentlemen of Dubuque came out fire up scoring two tries in the first 15 minutes, one by Eightman, Ben Roberts, and the other by Hooker, Kevin Bulava. With Dubuque playing aggressive defense Iowa City turned the ball over a lot and only managed to score one try in the first half. But the second half was a different story for Dubuque, with many penalties and some unfortunate events, was playing defense for most the of time. Then with some last minute efforts Iowa city scored two tries in the last 10 minutes to over take the lead for the first time of the game, which would win the game for Iowa city. Dubuque's Out Center, Austin Goodmin, scored his first try of the season in the second half after a great pick and go then pop pass from Flanker, Nick Schueller.
September 4, 2004 Gentlemen of Dubuque - 3 Cedar Rapids - 32
With many of new of players and injuries Dubuque put forth a great effort in crushing loss. The lone scorer for Dubuque was Seth Goodwin with a 3-point kick in the first ten minutes of the match. The Head Hunters scored on many of big plays, which hurt the good drives Dubuque accomplished. Towards end of the Dubuque started playing well as a team but it was too late in hope for a win in the first league match of the season.
August 28, 2004 Gentlemen VS Palmer College - Exhibition
Dubuque plagued with numerous injuries and players out for personal reasons, powerhouse Palmer College defeated Dubuque rather easily. It was a great learning experience for the whole team, especially with five guys playing in their first rugby match ever. There was some light in the loss, Prop/Lock Matt Roberts took over as team's captain and showed great leadership capabilities on and off the field.
