Gentlemen of Dubuque 37 (5) - Iowa City Ducks 21 (3)
MATCH SYNOPSIS: By Dave Schlueter
The Gentlemen played their homecoming game on Saturday, 9/26, against a gutsy Iowa City Ducks rugby club. The Gentlemen controlled the game for the 1st 60 minutes of the 80 minute match, rolling up a 37 to nil lead. However the last 20 minutes saw the Ducks score 3 converted tries to narrow the final against a G O D team which struggled with composure, and discipline on and off the pitch over the last quarter of the match.
POSITIVES: Winning and coming away with maximum points. Jessie Miller was a leader in the forward pack as the boys played with intensity for the most part.
NEGATIVES: Discipline and composure left us in the last 20 minutes of the match both on and off the pitch! One of the most dissatisfying wins-performances- by all of our members, since I don’t know when. We need to get back to our mission statement as a club and play with mutual respect for the referee, our opponent, and especially ourselves. We need to take care of each other and remain composed—especially our leadership! There is never a need for profanity and abuse of our teammates! Let’s get back to what has made us what we are and once again become “the gentlemen” !
